OCTOBER 26, 1881 | The showdown at the O.K. Corral: Wyatt, Virgil, and Morgan Earp and Doc Holliday engage in a shootout with Ike and Billy Clanton and Frank and Tom McLaury; the McLaury brothers and Billy Clanton are killed; Ike Clanton escapes. |
OCTOBER 28, 1881 | Coroner Henry Mathews convenes an inquest and determines that the Earps and Holiday killed the three men; he does not assess blame. |
OCTOBER 29, 1881 | Ike Clanton files murder charges against the Earps and Holliday. |
OCTOBER 31, 1881 | Judge Wells Spicer commences a preliminary hearing to determine whether the Earps and Holliday will be tried for murder. |
NOVEMBER 29, 1881 | The hearing is completed as the evidence closes; both sides waive final argument. |
NOVEMBER 30, 1881 | Judge Spicer rules, exonerating the Earps and Holliday. |
